In talking about feeling a deeper connection to the human beings of history, there is a unique experience to be had of Queen Elizabeth I at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, London. Here, across from the Armada portrait which celebrates England’s unlikely win against the Spanish Armada, is another portrait altogether. Artist, Matt Collishaw created a mask of just Elizabeth’s face and was able to animate it to blink and move—inspiring a longing to catch her eye.
